Furnace repair, replacement & heat pump solutions

Heating

Mountain winters don't negotiate. Whether you heat with a gas furnace, an electric heat pump, or a dual-fuel system, we keep it running through the coldest stretch of the year — and we tell you straight when a repair makes sense and when replacement is the better investment.

  • Furnace repair, tune-ups and full replacement
  • Heat pump installation, service and defrost troubleshooting
  • Dual-fuel systems sized for elevation and cold-snap performance
  • Thermostat upgrades and zoning
  • Emergency no-heat diagnostics

AC repair, installations & seasonal maintenance

Cooling

Summer in the mountains is milder than the Piedmont, but humidity and afternoon heat still add up — especially in homes with west-facing glass or finished attic space. We size, install and service cooling equipment that runs quietly and efficiently without over-cooling your home.

  • Air conditioner repair and refrigerant diagnostics
  • High-efficiency AC and heat pump installation
  • Manual J load calculations so the system is sized right
  • Seasonal cleaning, coil service and airflow balancing
  • Condensate and drain-line care to prevent water damage

Mini Splits service illustration

Ideal comfort for any room, any season

Mini Splits

Ductless mini-splits are the single best answer for the rooms that never feel right — bonus rooms over the garage, finished basements, sunrooms, additions, cabins and shops. One outdoor unit can serve several indoor heads, each with its own temperature setting.

  • Single-zone and multi-zone ductless systems
  • Heating and cooling from one unit, year round
  • Ideal for additions, cabins, garages and workshops
  • Quiet operation and room-by-room temperature control
  • Clean, careful installs with tidy line-set routing

Indoor Air Quality service illustration

Breathe cleaner, healthier air in your home

Indoor Air Quality

Tight mountain homes hold on to whatever is in the air — pollen, wood smoke, pet dander, cooking odors and humidity. We measure what's actually happening in your home and recommend filtration, ventilation or humidity control that fits it.

  • Whole-home air purification and high-MERV filtration
  • Humidifiers and dehumidifiers for mountain humidity swings
  • UV and ventilation options
  • Duct inspection, sealing and cleaning referrals
  • Filter plans so you never have to remember

Maintenance Plans service illustration

Keep your system running strong all year long

Maintenance Plans

Most of the emergency calls we run could have been caught months earlier. A maintenance plan puts two visits a year on the calendar — heating before winter, cooling before summer — so small problems get fixed while they're still small.

  • Two scheduled precision tune-ups every year
  • Priority scheduling when you do need a repair
  • Discounted repair pricing for plan members
  • Written condition reports after every visit
  • Manufacturer warranty requirements kept satisfied

How we work

Straightforward from
first call to final walkthrough

1. Talk it through

Tell us what the house is doing. We ask questions a technician would ask, not a call center script, and we schedule a visit that works around your day.

2. Diagnose & quote

We inspect the whole system, explain what we found in plain language, and give you written options with pricing before any work starts.

3. Do it right

Clean installs, drop cloths, tidy line sets, and a walkthrough at the end so you know how to run your system and when we'll be back.

Financing & savings

Ways to make a new system easier

Financing options

Replacing a system is rarely planned. Ask us about monthly payment options so a failed furnace in January doesn't have to be paid for all at once.

Rebates & tax credits

High-efficiency heat pumps and mini-splits often qualify for utility rebates and federal tax credits. We'll point you to what applies to the equipment you're considering.

Veteran discount

An additional 5% discount for veterans, active duty and their families — on repairs, installations and maintenance plans alike.

Common questions

Good to know

How do I know whether to repair or replace?

The usual rules of thumb: if the system is over 12–15 years old, the repair costs more than a third of a replacement, or you're facing a second significant repair in two years, replacement is usually the better value. We'll give you both numbers and let you decide.

Do heat pumps actually work in the mountains?

Yes — modern cold-climate heat pumps hold their capacity far better at low temperatures than older units did. Sizing and setup matter a great deal at elevation, which is why we run a load calculation instead of matching whatever was there before.

How often should my system be serviced?

Twice a year: heating before winter and cooling before summer. Most manufacturer warranties also require documented annual maintenance to stay valid.

What areas do you serve?

Asheville, Hendersonville, Brevard, Waynesville, Marion, Black Mountain and the surrounding Western North Carolina communities. If you're not sure whether you're in range, give us a call — we'll tell you straight.

Are you licensed and insured?

Yes. Black Bear Air is a licensed and insured North Carolina HVAC contractor, and we're veteran owned and operated.
